Thankfully if you were somehow duped into buying this clunker there is a fairly enjoyable online game. What’s ironic is that all the matches are a variation of deathmatch and capture the flag. and the two weapons that you never use in the single player but always have are actually useful this time around. There are a couple variations on deathmatch and capture the flag so it’s nothing new but everything was smooth and enjoyable with up to 8 players. Unlike the single player game, I really dug the level design online as it gave you all kinds of places to hide and snipe from. There are only four maps available at this time but there is an option from the main menu to download new content so hopefully more maps will be added later. Don’t get me wrong, this is very basic online gaming but it’s a bright spot in an otherwise lackluster offline game.
The graphics for the most part are clean if not last generation. It’s raining in every single level of the game so you’re constantly wet but the water never looks very good. In cutscenes where the camera is up close you can see that the drops rolling down their skin are moving at hyper speed and they looks like they’re missing a few frames of animation. The character animation is also choppy and very abrupt which isn’t very visually pleasing. All of the environments look extremely low poly and there’s very little dynamic lighting to speak of. Character models look fine and are probably the best rendered part of the game and this is good considering you spend a huge portion of the game sitting through in-game cutscenes. You’ll see at least one before and after a level as well as at every single checkpoint. It’s serious overkill and considering the story isn’t really worth listening to I happily skipped over many of them.

Turning into a Night Walker online is fun stuff.
The sound, other than the voice acting is just plain awful. One single song repeats over and over in true NES fashion online while the constant sound of rain drops fills the offline game. And it doesn’t even really sound like raindrops, it’s more like rain coming through a TV broadcasting static. Sound effects and music aside, the voice acting is actually very clear and well done. It’s also entirely in English which was a serious shocker.
Overall it’s a very mediocre game from developer Artoon just like their last effort Bullet Witch. If you love the genre then you might consider this one a rainy day at the bargain bin.
Import Friendly?
It has an option for full English. How does this not have a US release date yet?
