Oneechanbara vorteX Review

Gamer gives it 72%

The Onechanbara Vortex X is kind of like an upgraded version of part 2 which was part of the Simple 2000 budget title series on the Playstation 2. Some areas are reused, the graphics are upgraded, and the controls stay the same. It’s a brainless slasher with gobs of blood and gore that’s pretty much only worth your time if you like dressing up hot girls and controlling them. Oh wait uh I guess that might be a fair number of the population. Read on to get the gory details.

Awesome new CG cutscenes have been added.

So you start out with a single girl and she has blades. You can swap out to dual blades with the left trigger, clean off your bloody blades with the left shoulder button, do a fancy special attack that hurts you with two face buttons, attack with a face button, jump with a face button. You see, when you slash through a bunch of zombies your blade is going to get covered with blood and if you don’t clean it off it will get stuck in them. Also after seeing so much blood and guts another meter will fill up that when it overflows will turn you into some kind of crazed killer. Only problem with this is that after awhile you’ll die so you’ll need to head into your inventory and use a black rock that relieves that meter and turns off the bloodlust. The fun part is that for a little while you can rip through the competition easily.

Oh so bloody.

As you progress through the first and any level after that you’ll look for highlighted locations on your map to go to. Once there you’ll either be trapped by a fence or there will be an item to pick up. If you’re trapped by a fence you’ll just have to kill away until the fence goes away. Hack away limbs, torsos, heads, and watch the screen be covered with blood splatters until the game says you can progress. And well that’s the bulk of the gameplay. You’ll hit a boss every once in awhile and they have a huge amount of health, but other than that it’s pretty basic.

The slash-a-thon.

Bosses pretty much require you to constantly move and constantly attack. That’s about it. That is except for the giant zombie whale. Oh yes there is an entire level dedicated to a messed up Shamu beach itself every once in awhile to let you attack it. Then if that’s not enough to get you going, it occasionally opens its mouth and lets its giant tongue loose. On the end of its tongue is a baby whale that looks even more possessed and bites at you. I guess some would say that the price of admission is worth it just for this moment.
