After months of hype Emergence Day is finally here and it brings with it the new number one reason to own an XBOX 360, Gears of War. CliffyB and company have come through with a game that actually deserves the attention it has gotten and one that will likely be one of the best selling titles of 2006. If you weren’t planning on getting this game or even a 360, you should definitely rethink your reasoning as GoW is definitely one of the most Epic, engaging, and incredibly well made games to date.
Kill or be killed.
As Marcus Fenix, a branded traitor who has just been released from jail, you’ll be on a quest to destroy the invading force known as the Locusts. For reasons you’ll soon be aware of, Fenix is Sera’s only hope for survival and leads a squad of elite mercenaries on this journey. From the first frame of gameplay you’ll feel like part of the action as the cinematic angle has been pushed to new levels in Gears.
Speaking of cinematics.
The gameplay in GoW is all about cover. You basically run, jump, dive, and roll your way from obstruction to obstruction where you then pop around or over to lay down fire with one of your arsenal of weapons. While any lesser game would have glitches and uncomfortable controller layout with this kind of fast paced intense gameplay, Gears handles it with ease. All the actions mentioned and all the rest included are intuitive and easy to execute making playing that much better. Not only that but everything looks amazing and just how you think it should look while moving and executing attacks.
A face only a mother could love.
One thing different from most Epic games is the use of the third person camera which is obviously essential for the cover based gameplay. The dual analog FPS controls remain though and work just as well as Microsoft’s other big system game, Halo 2.
