Dead or Alive Xtreme 2 Review

Gamer gives it 45%

While the first Dead or Alive Xtreme wasn’t exactly a revolution, it was a pretty solid title that one could enjoy in the privacy of his (not her) own home. Unfortunately the breast experts over at Team Ninja decided to take their original formula and change it in the worst possible ways. Sure everything looks great but how long can you stand a beautiful game that has a horribly broken control scheme? Not long at all.

Things look good...

The core of DOAX is still the core of DOAX2, which is of course the volleyball mini-game. The exact same XBOX controls and animations are used for an initially underwhelming experience. Upon further examination you’ll notice that the auto-complete ball hitting is completely gone thus allowing you to actually play the game of volleyball and not just mash buttons. The problem here is that there is simply no way to know whether or not you’re near or under the ball coming at you. No shadow on the ground or game circle to tell you where to stand. The result makes for an insanely frustrating experience which previously was about admiring the ladies and kind of playing but now has turned into a broken simulation from hell.

There's actually a game called "Butt-Bump.
"

After seeing the game on many occasions I was most interested in trying out the new water-ski mode. It of course looks incredibly beautiful but once again the controls are horribly broken. It’s insanely hard to keep a straight line and bouncing off waves while turning is nearly impossible. Add in the fact that you loose nearly all control when you go off a jump and you’ve got something that should never have been published. Honestly, did anyone really think this would fly at retail?
