Bullet Witch Review

Gamer gives it 77%

After a lengthy cutscene showing the demise of society through several avenues such as a huge earthquake on the US west coast, Bullet Witch throws you into the action. You control a young woman who dresses provocatively, carries a giant gun, and at times controls the weather. During your time spent in this post apocalyptic world you will encounter a number of different locales, a decent variety of enemies, some shockingly cool boss fights, and a whole lot of shooting. If youre in the market for mindless fun with some really memorable moments and mostly high quality visuals then read on.

We're all going to die soon apparently.

Full Intro - Video

After a bit of walking through what looks like a modern day residential US city you encounter your first enemy zombie looking creatures that are easily dispatched with your automatic rifle. Once a few of these have been downed youll come upon what I like to call a gate keeper. These flying lifeless bodies with brains at least 100 times bigger than their limbs have the ability to pick up nearby objects and hurl them at you resulting in a one hit kill. Now normally youd probably want to steer clear of these freaks but in Bullet Witch youre going to need to make them go splat to open up force field fences that let you progress further in a level. Watching cars, parts of buildings, and other debris float around a giant brain is really cool to see but getting one hit killed because you couldnt splat the brain fast enough or because you were standing right next to a car when the brain started picking things up is a bit annoying. Youll likely scream at the TV more than once because of this.

When youre running around gunning down anything that moves youll notice that the crosshairs are a bit lower than normal. In this 3rd person shooter the targeting split circle is around the protagonists waist which takes a bit getting used to but eventually feels fine. Also when you hit the right analog stick for a better shot the view stays in 3rd person at her waist and just zooms in a bit. Its different and doesnt feel better than other setups Ive played with but it works. Hitting the left trigger makes you duck, b cycles attachments on your big ol gun, right trigger shoots, left trigger jumps, and right and left shoulder buttons cycle through magic menus.

Level 1 Action - Video

Yes, she has some seriously cool magical powers along with some influence over the weather. Most of the magic can be unlocked after the first level and the weather stuff gets unlocked along the way at certain story arcs. Near the beginning of the game youll get your first weather power which will most certainly leave you thirsting for the next. To use it youll need a full magic bar and once its unleashed it will send your girl into a sort of cutscene summon attack. Shell whip the clouds into a frenzy after which you can target something, most likely an invincible tank, after which the dark clouds above will rain down with some seriously devastating lightning. First the lightning zaps everything nearby and then it sends a huge bolt down onto what you targeted. You dont get to use this or the other weather magic all the time but when you do its awesome to watch as not only do the enemies blow up but much of the environments are destructible and blow up as well.
