Super Paper Mario Review

Gamer gives it 87%

Super Paper Mario takes a long list of genres and successfully blends them together to create an incredibly unique gameplay experience. This is a game for gamers as it lets you play a platformer, rpg, 2D, and 3D game all at the same time. Add in the fact that the game is visually pleasing, challenging, and has an odd storyline and you’ve got the Wii’s next great title. If you own a Wii you owe it to yourself to get this game.

Let the fun begin.

As you progress through the game you’ll be able to play as Mario, Peach, and Bowser. You can hotswap through all of them at any time which allows for levels that feature puzzles that require all three of the playable characters. It’s kind of a shame you’ll rarely use Peach and Bowser, but for fans of the old plumber it won’t be too saddening. Each character does have a small range of special abilities but because Mario is the only one that can switch between 2D and 3D, he’ll be your main guy for most of the adventure.

Go Go Mario!

As you progress through the game you’ll learn new abilities by way of things called Pixls. These little things will allow you to lift things, throw things, plant bombs, shrink, and do a whole host of other special abilities. As each one is unlocked, in true Mario fashion, more passageways appear in the current and previous levels you’re traversing. Character powers coupled with the new pixls really open up this platformer to have a huge amount of varied and exciting puzzles to solve along the way.
