In the gameplay department the great Action RPG hack and slash gameplay returns in a big way. Like Diablo and X-Men Legends, you destroy everything in sight, level up, and gear up to face more powerful foes as you progress. You can pull off a variety of melee moves along with some truly super superpowers. As you level up stats increase automatically but you are given points to distribute in a special power skill tree. You can also purchase skill points for huge amounts of cash that you pick up off of enemies. And along with all that there is actually armor to be had on big bosses that won’t show up on your character but will make them more powerful.

Special effects are where the graphics shine.

Graphics & Sound XBOX 360 vs PS2 vs XBOX vs PC
Graphics on the 360 and PC are noticeably better, smoother, and overall flashier. They’re not really what I would call next-gen but they are the best available. Thankfully though you’ll get the same high quality CGI on both platforms. In the sound department there’s really little if any difference so you’re fine in any version on that front. Yes in every version you’ll be witness to some of the worst voice acting to come along in awhile.

Seriously shiny action.

In the online arena, you can play with friends off of a single save where up to four players play together. Everyone can keep that save and unfortunately you can only have one person per console. What’s cool about this co-operative play is that you can actually switch to a mode where you work together and compete against each other. You progress through the main storyline together but you get points for every killing blow you deliver and at the end of the level the player with the most points gets recognition.

All in all it’s a very fun game that has a lot of polish and a lot of sequel potential.

Pros
  • Fun
  • Online Co-op
  • Excellent use of the Marvel Universe
Cons
  • Graphics aren’t next-gen on next-gen platforms
