Cooking Mama: Cook Off Review

Gamer gives it 63%

The two player mode and the cook competition quest like mode are essentially the same. The screen is split horizontally and you and a friend, or a CPU competitor, face off making a dish. You each complete the same steps at the same time after which Hitler Mama gets pissed off and grades you. It’s essentially the same thing as the normal mode but with a split screen and a score to beat. The funny thing is that competition in any form always makes a game more fun so kudos to the devs for adding this. It will definitely keep those who like the game playing for many days to come.

Removing the yolk will drive you insane.

The graphics are DS quality and seem to be a direct port. The sound is exactly the same and you’ll still be pulling out your hair as the annoyingly happy main theme plays in the background.

It’s a niche game that most won’t like but a few will devour. Give it a chance at rental if your Wii is collecting dust.

Import Friendly?

All the menus are in Japanese. It’s easy to get around though.

Pros
  • Wiimote gameplay is good at times
  • Multiplayer mode
  • Competition quest mode
Cons
  • Same graphics
  • Same mini-games
  • Same sound
  • Some terrible accuracy issues in some of the mini-games
