Tekken: Dark Resurrection Review

Duckroll gives it 96%

The customization in Dark Resurrection has more items than before now, and even Mokujin has customizable items and colors. Like in Tekken 5, certain special items for characters can be very expensive, especially hairstyles and unique items. In the end how much you get out of the customization mode totally depends on whether you enjoy playing dress up with characters. As a huge fan of Dead or Alive Xtreme Beach Volleyball, it's totally up my alley so I have been enjoying it quite a bit. Getting enough money to create the specific character customization you want can be a really good motivator to try out of the various extra modes to find new ways to earn money.

The various extra modes in the game include the standard time attack and survival stuff, as well as new modes like Gold Rush. In Gold Rush your opponent has no life bar, but damage you deal is converted into cash instead. If you survive the time limit without being defeated, you keep all the gold you've accumulated including a bonus. Another returning mode is the fan favorite Tekken Bowling. A simple bowling game which you can play with any of the 35 Tekken characters, it is surprisingly addictive and fun. You can play it in one or two player modes, or even play a quick Strike mode where you have a limited number of balls to attempt to get strikes each time, as opposed to standard bowling rules. All cash earned from bowling can be used towards unlocking customization items and movies as well. The extra modes in the game seem to be time unlocked, as they were only available after I played for an hour or so.

That covers about all of the game, but I'll like to commend Namco on putting the polish on what is already a solid product by providing several features which are more than expected. While the game supports multiplayer over ad-hoc, it also supports game sharing so even if a friend does not have the game you can still challenge him to battles. The game uses the memory stick to cache data in game sharing so load times are still amazingly quick.

Another thing to note is the Tekken.net online features. Using the PSP's infrastructure capabilities, you can connect online to Tekken.net with the game and update your rankings. Your player profile will then be ranked against international players who are also playing the game. Aside from this, there are also Ghost pack downloads available to add more variety to your single player experience, as well as exclusive Tekken PSP wallpapers for you to customize your PSP outside of the game with. The experience is totally seamless as all downloads automatically go into their respective directories and you'll never have to see a save screen.
