Warriors of the Lost Empire Review

Gamer gives it 55%

Lost Regnum gives a great first impression. The combat is varied and at times deep, the enemies have half a brain, and there seems to be a lot to unlock. Then you get past the first level and realize that there are only 10ish levels which all take place in dungeons that look identical. That being said, if you can get past the repetitiveness and the length you’ve got a fun hack n’ slash action game in the spirit of Untold Legends.

A large taste of the gameplay.

Once you’ve chosen to start a new game from the main menu you’ll be asked to choose a character class. There’s the Highlander which uses a two-handed sword, the Amazoness which uses a bow, a Gladiator who has dual swords, and a Dark Searcher who has a sword and a shield. Each class has a set of 10 different spells of which four can be equipped and two are given to you at the beginning. In the staging area, which you’ll travel to in between levels, there is a woman who will augment your weapons and armor with things you acquired.

English Quick Reference!

Once you have your character chosen, armor pieces colored, and a name entered you’ll be thrown into the action. Square does a weak attack, triangle does a strong attack, and the analog stick moves you around. Your belt which shows up on the left side of the screen can be cycled through with the up and down buttons on the analog pad and the selected item can be used by holding down the right shoulder button and the triangle button. The right shoulder button can also let you swap weapons, throw things, crouch, and do a special movement with different key combos. The left trigger opens up your spell quick cast menu from which you select one of four equipped spells using the face buttons. As you can see there are a ton of combat options to execute within the game and all are useful at times.

Comboing together a weak with a couple strongs and then using a spell that knocks the enemies down while dropping an item that will explode in a couple seconds is just one of many scenarios that you can execute. And thanks to enemies that range from idiotic to downright annoyingly difficult the interaction between AI and controls quickly surpasses that of any version of Untold Legends. Also, with items and spells that you and monsters wield that essentially augment critical chance, speed, and other attributes there is a turn-based strategy aspect added into the mix.
