Jeanne D'Arc Review

Witzbold gives it 91%

Jeanne d`Arc or Joan of Ark, is the latest Strategy RPG for the PSP brought to us by the people at Level5 who gained much fame from their work on Square-Enix`s Dragon Quest VIII and the Sony Computer Entertainment produced RPG Rogue Galaxy. Not since Final Fantasy Tactics have I loved a SRPG as much as this one. The excellent blend of beautiful graphics, interesting characters, engrossing storyline and great music, makes this title a real treat to play.
The game itself is loosely based off of the historical character and events of Jeanne d`Arc, a woman who had claimed to hear the voice of god, and fought in the Hundred Years` War as a commander of the French army. Asides from the name of some of the characters and locations, most of the games story has been touched up and mixed with a fantasy setting. As silly as this might sound to you history buffs out there, the game is still very enjoyable and the story itself will keep players on edge to see what happens next.
Jeanne the main character of the story starts off as a normal girl living a simple life in her village, until one day the village is attacked by monsters and destroyed. Upon finding a mysterious bracelet on a fallen enemy soldier she begins to hear the voice of god in her head telling her to save France. From there her quest to stop the English invasion of her country begins.
Level5 has also really outdone themselves with the excellent anime style cut-scenes that help progress the story at certain points in the game. Not only is the animation well done, the voice acting is also excellent.

These high quality cut-scenes will be sure
to please the hard core gamers and anime fans alike.
The game has a rather varied cast of members, ranging from your standard humans to the more unusual characters such as a race of beast people. There is even an elf character that will join Jeanne in her cause to fight back the English from her home country.
