Tekken 5 Dark Resurrection comes home for the second time, following the PSP version that was released in summer 2006. This time, the game is more of a straight arcade port, but has been released as a downloadable-only game from the Playstation Network Store for a budget price. Dark Resurrection, the follow-up title to Tekken 5, offers more game balance, new backgrounds and music, and three new playable characters, Lili, Dragunov, and the returning Armor King.
Although Dark Resurrection is a System 256 game in arcades (think of a souped-up Playstation 2), the game has been enhanced for the Playstation 3. The visuals have been enhanced to work in HD, allowing it to be displayed in as high as 1080p resolution. The result is a very crisp, sharp picture with most of the textures holding up well. This may not be a Playstation 3, but Tekken 5 Dark Resurrection still looks fantastic. The sound is always great in Tekken games, and this version is no exception; the sound effects and music compliment the game perfectly.
Tekken 5 Dark Resurrection plays great, and players used to using the Dual Shock controller will feel right at home using the Sixaxis. (Those who prefer to use a joystick don't have to shell out the cash for a PS3 stick either, as certain types of Elecom Playstation 2-to-PC adaptors will allow for any PS2 controller to be used on the Playstation 3.) As this game is basically a straight-up arcade port, players will only find arcade, versus, and ghost battle modes available. The boss, Jinpachi, has been made playable in this version of the game, and character customization is still retained, as it was also in the arcade version. There are a few movies and pictures that can be viewed in the game's gallery mode as well.
