It looks like, smells like, and actually is labeled as an EA BIG game but it definitely doesn’t have the quality that other BIG titles have. Sure the game is improved from last year’s debut but it’s no where near where it needs to be to become a AAA extreme sports title. Controls are a bit unresponsive, matches get repetitive and boring, and the graphics just aren’t what they used to be.

Initially things looked great as I delved into the meaty character creation aspect of the game. Along with full appearance configuration you can also edit stats and your very own pitch. And while all this customizability is cool it doesn’t help the actual gameplay in any way. Your pitch gets old over time and your appearance of course has no bearing on your skills on the court.

The core of the matches in Fifa Street 2 involve two teams of four on a kind of converted basketball court. There are quite a few stars in the mix but overall the huge stars are absent. But that doesn’t matter all that much as the core of the gameplay isn’t really about Soccer. It’s truly about tricks and humiliating opponents. Many of the modes in the game don’t even require you to score goals, just to execute a series of tricks to complete a sort of mission in order to get points to raise your stats. While this is interesting in small bits, don’t you think a Soccer game should primarily be about Soccer?

With the huge amount of tricks, the enormous ease of using game breakers to destroy your AI opponents, and the fact that the best part of the game is juggling the ball in a sort of Dance Dance Revolution mini-game makes me ill. Even if you don’t use tricks the AI is dumb as dirt and easy as pie to destroy in any mode. The makes the huge amount of modes, unlockables, and customizability totally useless. How about next time around you developer guys scrap everything and start over as I don’t see Fifa Street 3 digging itself out of this hole.
