Viewtiful Joe. A game that has captured the heart of console game players since it came out. Not only the style of the game was great, but it was really challenging. Since then there has been the less critically acclaimed Viewtiful Joe 2, which introduced Silvia, Joe's girlfriend, as a playable character. Now this is the third iteration of the series. Does it still have the charm of the other VJ titles? Does it have the huge amount of challenge the other two had? Let's see how the handheled version of the series plays.
Graphics
The graphics in the game are good. They aren't as smooth as in the gamecube and playstation 2 versions, but it wouldn't be realistic to expect such quality from the Nintendo DS. Still the graphics retain the feel that the ones on the other versions had and they are very good for DS graphics. The stages themselves are 2D for the most part except for a few elements like cars and breakable boxes. The characters, enemies and bosses are full 3D. One of the consequencesof weaker graphics in this game is that very few enemies can appear at the same time. There will rarely be more than 2 enemies on the screen at the same time. The only exceptions are some low-poly enemies that have to be destroyed using the touch screen. At those times there will be a bit more.
New VFX Powers
Well now that they had a touch sceren to use in this game, it's pretty obvious they had to use it to make some new VFX powers. Also you'll see that they removed Mach Speed and Zoom. Here is a list of what they are and what they do.
Slow: Like in the other games, it slows down the enemies and Joe, as well as giving a lot more power to your attacks. This enables you to punch enemies or objects high up in the air. This is the main power you will use throughout the game, especially in battle.
Scratch: Here is the first new power you get in this game. To use thi one, you must press the R button, then use your finger or stylus to rub the screen, which will make objects fall on enemies or do some changes in the stages. Some puzzle require the use of this power, but the rest of the time i found it rather useless.
Split: Another new power that uses the touch screen!!! To use it you must move your stylus horizontally on the touch screen. This will enable you to move the upper half of the screen. Whatever objects on the upper half of the screen, including enemies or platforms, will move to where ever you want them to go. This enables you to go to places you wouldn't be able to reach normally(like if there's a wall seperating you from the area you want to go) or moves objects on switches. This can be a fun power to use.
