Project Hacker: Kakusei Review

Overall

A fairly enjoyable adventure game although guessing passwords to unlock computers and doors become pretty repetitive. Its also the only parts of the game that requires much thought because most of the time, there is no need to choose the correct answer when faced with decisions during the story. The game will end up guiding you on the right path.

Being a game focusing on IT crimes, there is no need to collect evidence and bind clues together like in Ace Attorney Phoenix Wright or Tantei Gakuen Q. All you have to do is hack into a computer and play a mini game or two. That being said, the mini games are fairly entertaining, presented well and has a good atmosphere to them although sometimes it feels you dont need any skill to win them.

The story is good with some hilarious moments and likeable characters, let down only by the extremely short and monotonous BGM tracks.

Import Friendly

With great effort and a lot of trial and error, you should be able to get through this game although youll really have to understand the text to get the humorous side of things. You wont need to know Japanese to figure out how to play the mini games either.

Pros
  • Good Anime visuals.
  • Solid story with some hilarious characters.
  • Well presented mini games.
  • Built-in memo pad for taking notes.
  • A fairly impressive in-game internet.
Cons
  • Dull, monotonous music.
  • Password cracking gets tediously repetitive.
  • Doesnt require much thought for a crime solving game.
