Similar to Bleach DS, the game has a total of six different items to help you turn the wave of battles giving you advantages such as temporary boosts in attack power or defence and heal up. The difference is, you can’t sort out your own deck of items like in Bleach DS and there’s no way of earning and unlocking more. Every battle provides you with a random set of items which are pretty much useless due to the easy nature of the AI.

Seems all DS beat-em-ups use items now.
The character models in are really the only thing that’s really 3D about the game. Backgrounds are completely flat apart from the ground you move around on. The character models themselves resemble much of their Anime counterparts but look very much like plastic toy figures. The 2D Anime art on the other hand looks to be at the same quality of the actual show which fans should feel very comfortable with. Voice effects aren’t left out either.
In conclusion, Naruto: Shinobi Retsuden is a fairly fun beat-em-up to play but with its extremely limited modes, easy to beat AI and few unlockables it has very little to offer compared to other beat-em-ups already out for the DS.
Import Friendly?
Perfectly import friendly. Once you’ve figured out the few opening menus, you can breeze through the game. You don’t have to use the items on the bottom screen but if you do, it shouldn’t take you long to find out what some of them do.
Pros
- Fairly good 3D presentations of the Naruto cast.
- Easy to execute combos and specials.
Cons
- Very short.
- Very easy to beat.
