Mega Man Star Force: Dragon Review

Xcomp gives it 85%

Ever been stuck in a dilemma choosing between two different versions of a game? Well, with the latest Mega Man game from Capcom, you’ve got three versions to choose from in the form of Mega Man Star Force - Leo, Pegasus or Dragon.

The story begins with a young boy named Subaru Ryuusei who have stopped going to school after the shock he received from finding out his father’s gone missing during a NAXA space project. Ever since then, he’s been learning from a private tutor and has been trying to keep away from all forms of human contact. The only thing that’s been keeping him going out of his home is his interest in the stars, hoping his father would one day return

Meet Warlock, the alien from Planet FM.

One day, one of his father’s friend hands him over the Visualiser, a device that he had been working on before his disappearance. Subaru takes it with him to the viewing platform and puts it on, again in the vain hope that he can contact his father. But what he saw was something much more unexpected. A flash of light strikes him from above and he comes into contact with an FM alien named “Warlock”. Merging together to defend Earth from an invasion and facing his fears, a new Mega Man tale begins.

Unlike the “Battle Network” series of games where you could “jack-in” into anything electronic, the world of Mega Man Star Force revolves around the world of radio waves as mentioned earlier. Thanks to the Visualiser, Subaru can see these waves as paths floating around in the air and with the help of Warlock, he can turn himself into a wave form and go “On Air” to explore this alien world. Once he’s found a hole he can enter the world from, Subaru can enter the inner digital world of machines and view the personal information of various characters secretly on their Transfer devices.

No more “Jack-in”. We go “On Air” this time!

As with previous stories, viruses still exist and it’s up to you to bust them. Then there are also the new FM aliens who have completely converted the digital worlds into their own and as you make your way through these small maze-like levels, there’s a bundle of mini games to help break-up the non-stop waves of random encounter battles. These include quick math sums and reaction games where you have to shoot projectiles before they hit you.
