It’s finally here. The first Lunar game in about 10 years that isn’t a remake or a port. But in the end the game didn’t get very good reviews and even fans of the series ended up not liking it. Although the game is far from being as good as most people expected at first, and it has a few flaws that might sway people away from the game, it’s really not that bad.
First off, the graphics are pretty good. Not the best 2D on the DS, but still they did a pretty good job with most of the sprites. Although the battle sprites for the characters seem really pizelated, the monsters in battle look awfully nice. The big bosses that take both screens in battle are really imposing too. Not much to say about the overworld and city graphics though, since they are only maps with glowing squares where you move you character to and press a to enter the village, house or shop.
The game is quite easy to control. Move around with the D-pad, select things with the D-pad and the A button, cancel a selection with the B button, run with the B button, press Y to see a conversation between the characters in your party(REALLY useful), press X to access the menu, R to change battle modes and START to view information about the field(stuff about blue chests, the « clock », and the battle modes). Also, everything can be done with the touch screen. Moving, slection menus, changing battle modes, seeing the conversations between your characters, navigating through the towns and world map, everything(except running). The touch screen use is pretty convenient for menu navigation and selection in battle, but anything can be done with the buttons too. You can just choose what you think is better.
