Kupo? Kupo!
Control wise, players can opt to control everything by stylus, configuring the game for left-handed or right-handed users or, they can use the traditional buttons.
Those who have played the original will notice immediately how FFIII has been given a 3D makeover with characters having facial expressions now. Characters will now look sad, happy, angry or hurt etc. Although the expressions are reused on every character, they still look different enough with their individual appearances and, helps add emotion to the overall mood of the story. All characters including NPCs are presented in their cute SD (super deformed) form and, this was the very reason why the development team decided to add in the long pre-rendered opening before the title screen. It allowed players to remember the characters by their SD in-game form or, the real life-like designs used in the video. Im sure most of you will remember them by the latter after watching the impressive opening.

Hey, youre late and Im angry!
You can also zoom in on the characters to a level that is used during the real-time cutscenes but, textures become fairly blocky when you do this just like all 3D games. Even so, the characters and environments still look rich and well rounded off. Square-Enix actually encourages you early in the game to make use of the new zoom feature to spot hidden switches. You can see a sparkle in any suspicious area once youre zoomed in, allowing you to open up a secret passage as mentioned earlier.

Meet Ingus, one of the chosen heroes from Sasson Castle.
Other graphical effects are well done too with water flowing, reacting with ripples of waves if you step into them. Shades of green cover the village grounds and you can see the individual leaves that make up the bushes. Spell effects match their elements and the higher level they are, the flashier the effects are. Slashes from melee classes can also be seen on the enemy as they are executed with the number of hits being displayed afterwards.
