Sometime in the future, the idea of marionettes have received a great evolution thanks to the hard work of robot engineers and now, a new evolution of giant mechanical robots known as the “Marionation Gear (MG)” are being utilised in various tasks. In the northern town of Chrono, a young 13 year old boy is training to drive these huge machines at Garoy’s workshop and that’s where your career as a giant mecha pilot begins…
After giving the boy a name and choosing one of the 4 empty files available, you find yourself in Garoy’s workshop with close friend Kei by your side who’s training to become a robot engineer. It’s the big day when you can finally set foot inside a MG after all the training you’ve been through. The first MG you get to use is the old model, “Robot Knight: Gottfried G4” which can be seen lying back in full 3D in the giant garage you’re in. It’s a modified version of the 20 metres tall robot that was part of the evolution in robot technology which, managed to awe people by walking 51 steps despite its great mass. So there’s a bit of MG history for you.
Entering the cockpit, Kei gets you to enter your fingerprint details into the machine before the MG will startup which involves you tapping the scanner on the touch screen. Next, after opening the garage doors by pressing the big red button, it’s time to take Mr. Gottfried out for a stroll. Immediately you’ll notice the simple old looking gears on the touch screen control panel but you don’t get to use them yet as the tutorial continues.

It’s the unmanned Automans.
All seems well until an automated robot, an Automan, enters the town and an alarm sounds. These robots were designed by a robot engineer named Faust but due to the unstable nature of their AI, some of them have been known to go berserk. With no other MGs around to help defend the town, it’s up to you to pit yourself against the terrorising Automan. Gottfried doesn’t seem to have any weapons capable of putting up a fight but thankfully, your friend Kei sneakily added some hidden function to the MG. Smashing open the hidden controls to the left of the panel, you’re given a machine gun and a limited supply of missiles to use. The Automan doesn’t last for long but something odd is going on here.
It’s been over a year of training for both you and Kei so it’s time that you got some real world experience about the modern MGs. From this point onwards, you’re free to travel around a map where important places such as the workshops are marked with a star and mission with circles. Your MG vehicle then drives through along the paths once you’ve selected a destination and thankfully, you can skip this little animation.
