The popularity of the long running Prince of Tennis anime and manga in Japan has made game developers interested in making the anime into a game. There have been a few sport games as well as some dating simulators. This time Konami brings us one of the many sequels to the GBA Prince of Tennis games. Its a great sport games in many ways, showing both realistic gameplay and over-the-top shots and skills featured in the anime.
Graphics
Graphically, the game is a bit disappointing. Not that its bad, but it looks exactly the same as the GBA games that came out before it. The courts are nicely done, and the characters have pretty much the same look they have in the anime. The animations are also pretty well done, although, again, they are still pretty much GBA quality. When you do a smash ace or a service ace, you see a nice picture of the player you are using, and those are pretty good quality, a bit better than in the GBA versions. So the graphics here definitely arent bad, but youd expect the game to look a bit better than it did back on the GBA.
Sounds
Fans of the anime will like how the game sounds. The music either comes from the anime or at least has a similar style to what youd hear in the anime. So the music makes you feel right at home. The gameplay sounds are also, for the most part, taken from the anime too, from the special shots to when the ball hits the racquet to when the ball hits the ground, everything can be heard exactly the same as in the anime. And if you dont watch the anime, well it sounds similar to when you play tennis yourself. Finally, the part which will make fans happy, the voice actors from the anime are back to supply voices to their respective characters in the game. You can hear their voices when you do special shots, perform a service ace or do a smash ace, or if youre using a coachs power youll hear the coach give some kind of advice to the player, using a sentence they used in the anime. So if you liked Ryomas Mada Mada Dane, you could be hearing it quite a bit here. All-in-all the game sounds just like the anime, so fans of the series will love it. Other people will think it sounds just like a normal tennis game, so its all good.
