1.0, Introduction

Based on the 12 volume hit Manga series "Death Note", the story centres around a dark notebook known as the "Death Note" which has the power to kill someone just by having their name written inside. Death Notes belonged to the Death Gods but one day, one of them drops their notebook into the human world and a young man named Light picks it up. With the power of the Death Note, Light plans to make a world of peace by punishing criminals with death from the shadows. Soon he gains the alias "Kira", someone who could kill people mysteriously. All went well for Light at first but soon a famous detective going by the name of alias "L" is hot on his tracks. Thus, a great battle of the minds ensues between the Kira and L.

5.0, The Kira Game

The Goals

The aim of the Kira Game is for two characters to act as "L" and "Kira" - You and one of the AI controlled characters. You must then win by catching out who is acting like your rival. You can do this in several ways depending on whose role you're playing as.

When playing the role of "Kira" (キラ):

l        Punish whoever you think is L by using the Death Note after a turn.

l        Have L arrested by framing him - make everyone vote he is Kira.

l        Have everyone else arrested or killed off leaving only you and L left.

When playing the role of "L":

l        Have Kira arrested by making everyone vote he is Kira.

Turns and Statements

The Kira Game is set out in turns and after each turn, voting will take place. Each turn is ended after a certain number of statements are made and this number can be found at the bottom-right of the top screen.

To Agree or Disagree

Once characters begin making statements you'll see two names (refer to Characters section) along the top of the top screen with the characters 疑感度 (Suspiciousness) and 信頼度 (Trust Level). This shows how the character of the first name feels towards the character of the second name. For example, in this screen Sayu's trust towards Soichiro will increase greatly while her suspicions towards him being Kira will decrease greatly.

When statements are made, you can either:

同調 (Agree)

This will help double the overall effect of the statement being made.

反論 (Disagree)

This will reverse the effect of the statement being made but note that characters may try to argue with you. When this happens you can try to fight back but if you're unsuccessful, the overall effect of the statement they were making could end up being increased. Consequently, if you continue arguing with them, the overall reversed effect is also increased. Characters can argue more than once. The one who is proposing the arguments can do so 2 times while the one who started off with a statement can do so 3 times.

パス (Pass)

Make no comment. This may increase the suspiciousness level towards yourself.

Note that agreeing or disagreeing to any of the statements will lower your Proposal Gauge by 20 points. You can find out more about this gauge below.

It's Your Turn for a Statement

Now it's your turn to make a statement which will influence your own trust (信頼) towards a character or increase the suspicions (疑感) towards them.

The blue bars underneath each of the characters show their trust towards you and the higher this is the less likely they will try to argue with you. With characters trusting you, they'll be on your side backing up your statements. By gaining 100% trust, you'll sometimes gain useful information from them. For example, if they are the one you're targeting a red rectangle appears around their portrait. If not, other mini portraits may appear on the top screen telling you who else is not the one you're after (L / キラではない) or could be the one your're after (L / キラである). There will also always be a supporter (崇拝者) backing up your rival too. You can tap and hold the stylus on any of the character portraits to see how their trust levels fair with the rest of the players.

The overall suspicion towards a character can't be seen like their trust levels but you'll have a general idea of how high they are by looking for checkmarks on portraits. If you look at the gauge towards the bottom next to your own character's picture you'll see your Suspicion Gauge. When this reaches the first yellow line you'll end up with one checkmark on you and when it reaches the second, you'll have two. This will happen to the other characters too and will mean they are very likely to be voted out at the end of the turn!

As you can see from the screen below, each of the 6 types of statements available have their costs and how strong their effects are indicated by one or two arrows. To make a statement, simply drag the appropriate statement bubble onto a character's portrait. Be aware that characters may try to argue with you and just like when you're disagreeing, you may try to fight back but it will cost you. How many proposal points you have can be seen along the bottom screen. These are replenished partially when it's your turn to make a statement and fully after all statements are made.

Finally, every character can use a Special Statement. 4 of these are available to all and they are:

疑惑全↑

Increase everyone's suspicion level, -70

疑惑全↓

Lower everyone's suspicion level, -70

発言力回復

Recover proposal points, -40

発言最大値↑

Increase maxium proposal points, -70

The effects of the -80 "Personal" one differs for every character. Refer to the Characters section to find out what each of them is.

Voting Time, Losing & Penalities

The turn ends and it's time to vote. After you drag the blue bubble to the person you think is Kira, everyone else will cast their vote too. Arrests are only made when the number of votes on a character exceeds half the number of participants there are in the game. At this point if you can lose the game if your suspicion levels are too high and the votes get you arrested. At the same time, if the person Kira or L is after doesn't get arrested and someone else is, whoever's playing as L loses 20 of his/her maximum proposal points. So in other words, if you're playing as L, you lose 20 of your max proposal points for each wrong arrest. Also, if everyone is arrested apart from you "L" and another person, you will also lose the game because Kira will no longer have to guess who L is.

When the wrong person is arrested or there are no arrests after a turn, you will get the chance to close in on the one you're after. When playing as L, you can drag the bubble to someone to have them investigated. A cross or circle will appear depending on if they're the one you're after. If you're playing as Kira, you'll have a chance (ノートを使いますか?) to use the Death Note to "kill off" someone (another person just gets arrested). Answer yes (はい) after a voting session to get out the Death Note and then again to use it. However, if you use it on the wrong person, your maximum proposal points are halved! Also note that the AI can make use of these skills after votes too.

If you managed to get any information out of the characters, portraits will be marked with circles and crosses. Crosses show that the person is not the one you're after, circles show they maybe the one you're after and a double circle show they are the one you're after.

Watch for Patterns

If you're going to catch the one posing as L or Kira, you'll have to watch out for there behavioural patterns. The game hints that "L" will try to increase all members trust and be persistent in pointing suspicions at one person. As for "Kira", he's the opposite of L's actions - his suspicions will go towards anyone but will try to gain the maximum trust of someone. Listen out for hints from your character too. When there's a speech bubble on their portrait at the bottom-right of the screen, it means the person that just spoke could be the one you're after.

And that's all there is to know about the Kira Game! Have fun manipulating everyone!

6.0, Story Mode

To clear each episode, all you have to do is carry out your role as L or Kira. However, by fulfilling the bonus conditions before you get your target arrested, you will earn yourself apples to unlock new playable characters such as Nia (5 apples), Molly (10 apples) and perhaps a twelfth episode.

Note that the story used in this game differs slightly from the original story but essentially it's the same.

Episode 1 - The Beginning

The Death Note. Whoever has their name written in it will die. This was the notebook that Death God "Ryuk" dropped into the human world and was picked up by Light Yagami, a top Japanese high school student. Light has decided to use this Death Note to create the ideal world by bringing punishment to criminals. He was going to let people know that there was someone who carries out justice and change the world then become the new god.

Since then criminals around the world have been dying because of an unknown heart attack. Police from all around the world were disturbed by these unexplained incidents. On the other hand, people started to refer to the mysterious murderer and punisher of evil as "Kira". Some admired Kira for what he was doing while others feared that he may bring death to them.

However, one day someone finally became a obstruction to Kira's actions. His alias name was "L". No one knew his real name, what he looked like or where he was but he was a world famous detective for solving many tough labyrinth-like cases. Using a trick on television, L managed to find out Kira was in Japan and for the first time, he revealed himself so that he could work together with the Japanese police. But there were few who were unafraid of Kira's wrath. As the investigation continued, many dropped out but some remained. Amongst them was Light's father, Chief Soichiro Yagami. He was a little disappointed at how many there were left to carry on with the Kira case but with L's help they should be able to do it. They decide to go meet L and listen to what he has to say.

After meeting L, they all decide to use fake names with L being referred to as "Ryuzaki". This was a precaution against Kira as all he needs to kill someone is to know what they look like and their name. L also asks for the help of Soichiro's son Light in the Kira case because he has helped solve many cases before too. For Light, it was a great chance to deal with L. But was L really looking forward to his detective skills or was it for another purpose...? And it was so, Light managed to get himself into the Kira investigation team. Kira was there to kill off L and L was there to catch Kira. It was the beginning of a battle of minds.

Later at HQ, L announces that Light is Kira but Light denies it saying L is the one that's Kira. L was sure of himself. If by arresting Light the case isn't solved then they can arrest L instead. Opinions are slightly different amongst the investigation team so L asks them to vote. In the end, most vote for Light and he finally admits he is Kira... Turns out they were just playing a game. People who were interested in the battle between Light and L made a game called the "Kira Game" and it has become very popular lately. The game involved players playing the role of Kira and L. L goes onto explaining the rest of the game's rules because Matsuda didn't know what they were.

You can choose to hit the skip button at the bottom-right of the screen during the dialogue to skip the entire tutorial or, you can play through it for an idea of what you have to do. If you do, be sure to tap the first button 次の説明を聞く that appears after each lesson to continue.

After explaining the rules, L reveals that he already knows what kind of person Kira is. He thinks Kira is a child because with the power he possesses, one would surely try to fulfill one's own desires but Kira isn't doing that. Instead, he is killing off criminals without showing any interest in money or power etc. Matsuda disagrees saying a child would be frightened of such a power. L agrees that the average child would but Kira was no normal child.

As L talks, Ryuk laughs in the background and wonders what Light will do. Light tells him to quieten down because even though those who haven't touched the Death Note can't see or hear a Death God, Ryuk was distracting.

Despite the discussion, Matsuda still refuses to believe that Kira is a child with such terrible thoughts in mind. They decide to play the Kira Game to let him have a peep into the thoughts of Kira.

Role: Kira

Bonus Condition: Win within 3 turns.

Soichiro tells Matsuda that they should go along with L's deductions as part of the team. Matsuda still doesn't understand and wonders if he's not needed because his opinion differs from the others. L says no because he needs people with a difference of opinion and they're short of help. Also, with Watari being so busy, L needs someone to carry out the room service for him...

Episode 2 - Sweet Tooth

Several days pass and L has contacted the FBI to send agents over from America to help with the Kira case. Meanwhile, L's own investigation team has recognised the potential of the Kira Game even though they were unsure about how it could help them with the investigation at first. Matsuda on the other hand was getting a little tired of running errands for L - buying all sorts of cakes, chocolate and sweets for him day and night. Matsuda wants to have something more important to do to help catch Kira. There wasn't much the rest of the team could do about that but they were a little concerned about how unhealthy all this sugary food is for L. This reminds Ryuk that he hasn't had his favourite apples for a while and tries to tell Light that but he can't give him apples in the HQ. Hearing what the team members have to say about his sweet tooth, L says that it'll be fine as long as you use your head enough. Just to see if thinking did lower all the fat from the sweet foods in L, Matsuda suggests they run a check on him. They will play the Kira Game to check make comparisons. Everyone doesn't look too happy but they play along.

Role: L

Bonus Condition: Matsuda's suspicion level reaches 0.

After the game, L checks how much fat has and finds that it's decreased by 1.27%. Matsuda can't believe it because L was still eating sweet food while playing the Kira Game. Then Aizawa reminds that fat can end up increasing a person's weight so, even if there is no change in body fat but there is an increase in weight, it means it hasn't really decreased. Matsuda doesn't get it. Light explains that should a person drink a large amount of water, the person can gain weight. The same can happen with fat. In any case, L can have as much sugary food as he wants providing it doesn't affect their investigation. All that thinking in the Kira Game has made L hungry and so he sends Matsuda off to get some more sugary food for him. Matsuda isn't happy of course.

Episode 3 - Contact

Under L's instructions, FBI agent Raye Penver was to keep a close eye on Light Yagami. Light finds out and decides to take control of a criminal using the Death Note to create a bus jacking scene. On the bus, Light pretends that he thinks Raye was the bus jacker's accomplice and manages to make Raye show his ID. Meanwhile, Soichiro had also discovered FBI agents had arrived in Japan. Without knowing about what's happening between the FBI and his son Light, Soichiro summons Raye to their HQ for questioning.

Outside the HQ entrance, Light welcomes Raye. Raye reminds him not to tell the others about what has happened so far and Light assures him he won't. Raye had not expected Light to be part of the Kira investigation team but he still doesn't want him telling the others about the bus jacking incident. Furthermore, there's no way Light could be Kira because even though he could have killed the bus jacker instantly, he showed no signs of doing it. Rest assured, he enters the HQ and is questioned about what the FBI is doing in Japan. Soichiro wants to know if he was investigating members of the Japanese police but Raye denies it saying it was for their own purposes. He says that 327 American criminals were murdered and claims that the first person he had to investigate just happened to be Light - it has nothing to do with the Japanese police.

However, Raye couldn't hide the truth. The Japanese police had requested help from the FBI for the Kira case but was turned down. The fact they're here now means they can't just be investigating Kira. Light already knew what they were really doing in Japan and he knows neither L nor the FBI wants the Japanese police to know what their real intentions were. Light was planning to make good use of this opportunity. He blurts out that L's intentions and Soichiro is taken aback. Now the trust is broken in the investigation team. Light had only planned the bus jacking to find out Raye's real name but wasn't expecting something like this to happen too.

L tries to deny he is the one giving instructions to the FBI by saying there could be other people named "L" doing so. Eventually, he decides to use the Kira Game as a test to show the team whether the FBI really is here to investigate the Kira case or not. It should be hard for Raye to prove himself by winning with both L and Light working together in the game. Light agrees but on the condition that if Raye doesn't pass the test, he must reveal the names of all other FBI agents. Raye agrees to the game.

Role: Kira

Bonus Condition: Punish L after the first vote (i.e., use the Death Note on him).

Raye wins the game proving he knows enough about Kira to be in Japan trying to catch him. The team believes him and L remarks he's got quite some skill to beat both L and Light working together. L agrees but he actually knew L done it on purpose to let Raye get away. Now he can't get the names of the other agents. Ryuk laughs and asks if Light wants the ability of the Death God eyes so that he can find out the real names of people just by looking at them - in exchange for half his lifespan. But Light decides Raye Penver and the agents aren't worth it. He'll find a way himself.

One week later, the team finds out all 12 FBI agents have died of heart attacks. L says he can't contact them either and finally admits he was the one instructing them to check on the backgrounds of the Japanese Police. He regrets the agents had to become sacrifices but now he knows more about Kira. Kira is managing to get information from the Japanese somehow. He can kill people just by knowing their names and faces and above all, he call also control the actions of his victims to a certain degree. L can tell he doesn't like losing either because he will kill those who are a threat to him even if they aren't criminals. Kira believes he is justice and that's why he doesn't care if he kills those who try to oppose him. L also hates losing thus he understands Kira's thoughts.

Five days after the agents had arrived in Japan, Kira was testing the Death Note on criminals to see if he could control their actions. It's likely he knew about the FBI during those 5 days. 8 days later the agents died and that is why it's safe to presume he took control of one of the agents to find out about the others. Kira was slow to act because he had to spend some of that time to conceal himself but L is sure he came into contact with one of the agents to get the information he wanted. If they find out who it is then it should lead to them to Kira. Just then Soichiro remembers how L hates losing. The fact the FBI agents L called in died meant that he had just lost to Kira. L admits it but he assures them he will win in the end and he will prove it to them. Justice will prevail.

Meanwhile, someone is saddened by Raye's death and she knows Kira killed him...

Episode 4 - Trace

Taking control of Raye Penver, Kira (Light Yagami) managed to obtain information about the other FBI agents. Raye died of a heart attack on the train station platforms while the others were all killed. After taking a look at footage of how Raye died, L's suspicions turned towards Light's name on his list of suspects. Raye's fiancée too was on the move, ready to avenge the death of her lover.

At HQ, L was thinking through the events that took place. Kira had made a very large move this time and L is sure he's left some clue behind that will lead to him. Besides that, Raye was in charge of investigating Light. Could that mean Light was Kira?

Meanwhile, Light was taking a walk outside with Ryuk. He was confident that he had erased all evidence about the bus jack incident and how he found out the FBI agents. After the Death Note test on the criminals, Light also understood more about how the Death Note works. He found out that he can control a person only to a certain extent because he couldn't make them do the impossible. The Death Note could also control their time of death. As they walk, Light reminds Ryuk not to try speaking to him while outside in case of drawing any suspicions. Just then, Raye's fiancée approaches Light introducing herself as "Shouko Maki", a freelance journalist.

If what Shouko was thinking was correct then Kira should have been in the bus jacking incident. Raye had told her clearly that he couldn't help but show his ID on board the bus. She also knew that Kira had access to police information. Light Yagami was the only one living in range of the bus her fiancée took and coincidentally he was also a member of the investigation team. Everything fits. So could Light be Kira?

As Light wonders what this Shouko is up to, Ryuk laughs in the background. He knows something. Shouko continues about how she's been investigating how her fiancée died and how she found out he showed his ID to Kira. She was a threat to Light and he had to kill her. Ryuk continues to laugh as Light takes out a piece of the Death Note and pretends to write down what Shouko knew about the incident. He was planning to make her die as if she committed suicide somewhere where it would be too late by the time her body was found. The death of her fiancée was reason enough for her suicide.

After pretending to take down the details, Shouko asks Light to take her to their HQ where they could speak more about Kira. Light agrees and they begin to walk. Something was odd. Ryuk was laughing more than usual and Shouko should have been taken control by the Death Note by now. Light realises she's using a fake name. Helpless, Light leads her to the HQ and there, L greets her as Shouko Maki. There was nothing Light could do at the moment. It's going to be hard to find out her real name just now so he'll have to try and prevent her from talking about the bus jacking incident. Ryuk reminds Light that they can grant him the Death Gods eyes but Light wasn't going to lose half his lifespan just because of this woman.

A while later, Shouko learns from L that Light was on the list of suspects the FBI were investigating. Aizawa was a little surprised at how quickly L could reveal confidential information like that but it turns out Shouko was a FBI agent 3 months ago. Her theory was now confirmed. She tells the team that she too has a suspect in mind and that was Light Yagami. Matsuda doesn't believe her because he think she's just saying that because Light was on Raye's suspect list. She decides to prove battle it out with Light in the Kira Game. She'll prove he is Kira and make Light admit it.

L agrees about the game because he believes there is a 1% chance Light is Kira. In truth, L knew Shouko's real name "Naomi Misora". She had worked under him before during a murder case and the Naomi she knew was a very good investigator. The fact that she used a fake name to contact Light shows that she was prepared to catch Light out as Kira. L's suspicion towards Light rose and he was keen to see how Light would react. On the other hand, Light knew L was testing for his reaction. Whether he refuses to play or not he'll still look like Kira thus, he decides to play, find out how Shouko thinks and then her real name.

Role: L (Naomi goes by the name Maki (間木))

Bonus Condition: Arrest Kira by the first vote.

Naomi wins the game but in the end she couldn't prove Light was Kira while they were playing. Naomi leaves disappointed but she isn't going to give up and continues with her own private investigation. Light was pleased with the results. He completely controlled the game and prevented Naomi from saying anything that was a threat against him. On the other hand L realises it wasn't because she couldn't prove Light was Kira - It was because the game was being controlled that way. His suspicions towards Light remains high seeing that both he and Naomi's theory was the same.

Walking away from L's HQ, Naomi sadly thinks about what she should do now. Her fiancée Raye was dead and her trail leading to Kira was also gone. Just then Light catches up with her and enthusiastically invites her to join the investigation team. That way she can still catch Kira. To join the team though, she'll need to show her ID and have the recommendation from someone in the team. Then all that's left is L's approval. L encourages her to join and said he'll recommend her to the team. He then calms down, pretending to realise such a beautiful woman like Shouko would never join such a dangerous investigation. Naomi speaks up saying she is not afraid and is keen to catch Kira. Light continues his act and happily, he invites her back to the HQ. But Naomi looks away and hesitantly she tells Light that "Shouko Maki" was not her real name. Light pretends to be surprised, continuing to praise her skills. Naomi takes out her Japanese driving licence and shows it to Light. It was farewell to Naomi Misora.

Episode 5 - Shattered

Days after Naomi's disappearance, a number of videos arrive at Sakura TV, a national network station. The sender was Kira and he claimed he had a message for the world. After the staff verified that more criminals would die as Kira said, they decided to broadcast the messages on TV as instructed. When they broadcasted the tapes, all announcers and commentators who criticised Kira died as the messages say they would of heart attacks. As a result, further broadcasting was cancelled and the videos were taken away as evidence.

Back at HQ, L examines the videos and the envelope that they were sent in. The postage stamp showed they were sent from Osaka but L considers that Kira may have controlled someone to have them sent. He then thinks about the scrambled voice, the handwriting and the images that were clearly recorded on a home recorder. Many died as the messages said they would but it wasn't like Kira to use a TV station to broadcast such content. So what could this all mean? L gets Aizawa to run forensics on the package and its contents.

Soichiro asks L what he thinks about all this. L thinks back to the messages and says that two of them were similar to the Kira they knew. Those messages were that Kira wanted to create a world without evil and that the police should be working together with Kira. However, there were also points that differentiated this video's Kira from the one they have been after. One was that people who had committed no crime were killed and two was that he publicly revealed what his ideals are. The Kira they knew was someone who was going to change the world slowly and wasn't aiming to dictate the world by fear. Also, L can't understand why Kira would approach the police directly to try and establish some form of cooperation at this time. L thinks this was a second Kira but Matsuda and Aizawa doesn't believe him, only Soichiro does. They decide to prove the theory using the Kira Game.

Role: L

Bonus Condition: Both Aizawa and Matsuda's trust must be at 100%.

After the game, L continues about the possibility of a second Kira and how if they catch one of them, they'll have a very big clue about the other. However, he knows the first Kira is clever and will try to get to the second Kira first before the police does. L tells Soichiro to call Light over but don't let him know that the Kira this time maybe fake.

Light arrives and L wants him to watch the videos so that he can try to make a deduction himself. If Light was really Kira then he would hide the fact that the Kira on the video maybe a second Kira then try to find him himself.

Watching the videos, Light did not like the low image they portrayed about Kira. He also knows that he must be careful about his words. Wondering why L was showing the videos to him alone, Light realises what he was trying to do. Light tells them that he thinks there is a second Kira. The reason was that if the first Kira really wanted to show his powers he wouldn't kill people who only criticised him. L says he is right and continues that the video Kira could kill people just by knowing what they look like. All the people who had criticised Kira on TV were all dead including those who used false names. Thus, it's natural to think that a new Kira has appeared and not that Kira has grown stronger. Light gets angry finding out that L already knew the answer and was only testing him. L doesn't deny it but says it was to test his abilities and now he was certain about them.

L continues to consider how the second Kira may have the same ideals as the first. However, it may also be possible that the second Kira is just being controlled too. L decides to make some fake messages in response to the videos and he wants Light to make them. The other team members consider it too dangerous because they don't know what the second Kira may do. On the other hand, if they do nothing they could end up with two Kiras continuing with their killings. Opinions are split once again and so they decide to use the Kira Game.

Role: Kira

Bonus Condition: Punish L by the first vote (ie, use the Death Note on him)

And so it's decided that they should respond with a fake message with high quality images and broadcast it during the evening news. Light is to prepare the messages right away and he realises L lured him into playing the Kira Game so that he could test him. Meanwhile outside in the dark streets, another Death God named "Rem" walks alongside a girl named "Misa". Rem tries to make Misa use the Death Note for herself more but Misa answers she already is. She wants to know what kind of person Kira is and that's why she made those messages on TV so that Kira would respond. Rem comments how it's a dangerous game she's playing. Misa could get killed but she isn't afraid. After all, she has the ability of the Death God eyes.

Episode 6 - Love

After several messages, a message soon came from the second Kira that she had found Kira. Misa Amane then goes to make contact with Light and everyone meets her at his home, thinking that the young popular idol is Light's new girlfriend. Misa talks about her affection towards Light and how he will her future groom but Soichiro's not so sure about that. They're a bit young to be married... Seeing how Light's father doesn't seem to like her too much, Misa decides to use the Kira Game to prove her skills.

Role: Kira

Bonus Condition: Sayu and Soichiro's trust levels at 100%.

A classmate of Light arrives after the game, Kiyomi Takada. After hearing that Misa maybe Light's girlfriend, she gets a little upset and comments how Misa doesn't look much like a suitable girl. Misa doesn't like the undergraduate's attitude and decides to challenge her to a Kira Game to see who is more suitable for Light.

Role: Kira

Bonus Condition: Misa and Light's suspiciousness at 100%.

The game ends and Soichiro asks Light to send everyone home since it's late. Afterwards, Light gets a little talk. The next day, L appears at the university with Light again unafraid of getting killed by Kira. Misa appears saying she has a photo shoot nearby. After greeting Light, she runs off to work. L invites Light to go to the psychology lecture with him but Light walks off to the toilet. There, he tries to phone Misa but she doesn't pick up. Later, back at HQ Misa has been captured and L is sure that she is the second Kira.

Episode 7 - Surveillance

Misa's fingerprints (along with other pieces of evidence) were found on the gum tape used to seal the envelope, containing the Kira tapes sent to the studio. Furthermore, it was odd that Misa got so close to Light right after meeting not too long ago. This lead L to believe she is the second Kira. Now Light considers killing off Misa so that all threats towards him are eliminated but he remembers what Misa's Death God "Rem" said - Rem would kill Light if he was to kill the Misa that she's so fond of. As Misa can't stand being tied up and blindfolded, she asks Rem to kill her. Rem can't do it. Instead, Misa is made to abandon her copy of the Death Note and has her memories of it erased along with those of Light being Kira. However, her strong feelings towards Light remain. Now Light has an idea of getting Misa released and Rem continues to watch him until he does.

The next day after Misa passed, her attitude towards her interrogation has changed. He keeps referring to her detainers as "stalkers". L finds it odd as if she just lost her memory after she passed out. Light comes along and asks L to detain him, saying that he himself maybe Kira because he thinks all criminals should die and maybe doing killing them off unconsciously somehow. To clear up whether he is guilty or not and to put him off L's suspect list, he asks to be detained like Misa. L agrees to do so but others disagree. Soichiro can't see his own son being detained and Matsuda says that anyone including himself think all criminals should die so, it shouldn't be reason enough to detain Light. They decide to settle it with a Kira Game.

Role: Get yourself arrested as Kira (which means don't kill L or get him arrested either!)

Bonus Condition: Get arrested within 3 turns by vote.

Light is detained and his father Soichiro also asks for himself to be detained because he doesn't know what he'll do in the future, seeing his son locked up. L agrees and three days pass. Everything's going according to Light's plan... Now he just has to abandon his Death Note too. No new deaths have occurred over the past few days and all signs are pointing to Light as Kira. L is puzzled.because even though he was sure Light was Kira, he wasn't expecting the killings to stop because Light wasn't stupid enough to stop coming up with plans to hide his identity as Kira.

Light had actually planned ahead and told Ryuk that he would give him a secret signal while he was talking in the cell to erase his memories. It was the seventh day and he gave the signal for Ryuk to erase his memories. Ryuk leaves Light and Light's expression changes. Suddenly he says to L that he no longer thinks he is Kira. He can't kill off criminals without planning and he can't plan unconsciously. Even so, it was a fact the killings had stopped since Light was detained. He can't be freed.

Two weeks later the killings start again. Matsuda is happy for Light and Soichiro is relieved. Just as Matsuda rushes off to tell Light the good news, L stops him and says he would go tell Light himself. At the cell, he pauses and tells Light to admit what he has done since there hasn't been any killings for two weeks. Light refuses and L just doesn't understand what is going on. Light is just acting so different than before.

50 days later, the killings continue but L still won't let Misa, Light or his father out. The rest of the team all say to L that they should be released now but L has other thoughts. With being different, L decides to settle it with a Kira Game.

Role: L

Bonus Condition: Soichiro trusts you 100%.

After the game, L agrees to free the prisoners but first he goes off to speak with Soichiro first. Light meets up with Misa and his father thinking he is cleared as a suspect but Soichiro tells him that L and the world leaders have identified both Light and Misa as Kira. Orders have been given to have them executed. Light and Misa can't believe what they're hearing but it's been decided. Just as Light pleads to his father, Soichiro takes out a gun pointing it at his son. He is going to kill Light first then himself so they can be freed of all this trouble. A gunshot is heard.

Meanwhile, a meeting is taking place somewhere else. One of the men claims they have a connection with Kira...

Episode 8 - Infiltration

Both copies of the Death Note were now ownerless. One was buried by Light while another was given away to a new owner by Rem, just as Light instructed her to do. Now, a mysterious meeting was about to take place at the Yotsuba Corporation.

Back at L's HQ, Soichiro had just put on act as instructed by L. It was the condition he set out for Light's release. If either Light or Misa were Kira then Soichiro would have died but he didn't. That doesn't mean they're out of his surveillance because there's still those Kira videos pointing to Misa and Light may have seen through his father's act.

A week passes by and L is down in the dumps. He's not as enthusiastic about the Kira investigation as usual because his theory about Light and Misa being Kira wasn't completely right. It's quite a shock to him. Even though Light knew how L was feeling, he decides to show L something interesting. Within the past 5 months, he has been checking up on the backgrounds of Kira's victims. He found they 3 of them had important roles at a company named Yotsuba Corporation. One of them was even the chief executive of Yotsuba. The other two were from two other large corporations in Japan and curiously, the stock values of Yotsuba have been shooting up dramatically lately. The deaths were very convenient to Yotsuba it seems. This picked up L's interest because a third Kira may have appeared. He gives out the orders to check up on the Yotsuba Corporation while Matsuda must pretend to be Misa's manager and bring him some sweet food.

Meanwhile at Yotsuba Corporation, the mysterious men are discussing how to deal with L by finding out his real identity. They've hired a famous detective named Erald Coil but the men don't seem to trust each other. They're scared that one of them is Kira and so are careful of their words.

Returning to L's HQ, news about Yotsuba's action reaches L. It turns out Erald Coil is just one of the other aliases L uses along with "Donuver". It's time they check out this Yotsuba place. L turns round to warn Matsuda not to do anything stupid alone but he's nowhere to be found...

Matsuda's managed to sneak into the Yotsuba building somehow and overhears a little of the meeting just as it ends. He stays too long however and gets discovered when the men leaves the room.

As Watari tracks down Matsuda's location using GPS, L comes up with a plan to save him. As Matsuda tries his best to pose as Misa's manager, his phone rings and it turns out to be Misa calling him. He hints that he's in trouble over the phone and Misa too carries on the act. For a moment, the dark men considered having Kira kill him off but decide to see what Matsuda is really up to. They give him a chance to bring the popular idol Misa over to see them.

Until Misa arrives, Matsuda suggests they play the Kira Game to waste away the time.

Role: L (Note Matsuda uses his fake name, Matsui (松井) here)

Bonus Condition: Own suspicion level hits zero.

Misa finally shows up with Soichiro posing as the company president. The Yotsuba board directors are lead to Misa's room where they are given drinks served by Misa. Light also comes along and is introduced as an employee of their company. Misa tells the directors that Light is a university student who is really good at the Kira Game. She lures them into the game and offers a special prize for the winner. She hints it might be a kiss.

Role: Kira (Note Soichiro is referred to as President (会長) here and Matsuda remains as Matsui)

Bonus Condition: Win without getting two checkmarks on you at all.

After the game, it's time to move on with L's plan. Soichiro hints at Matsuda to go out to the veranda and do a handstand. Matsuda wonders what they could be thinking telling him to do a handstand out on the veranda on the 15th floor. The others urge him on saying the best way to avoid the Yotsuba Kira from killing him is to play dead. Matsuda knows he has no choice so acting drunk he goes out onto the veranda. The Yotsuba directors are surprised at what he's doing. Suddenly Matsuda falls screaming. Down below, Mogi catches Matsuda but the Yotsuba directors don't know. They rush out to look out at the road and there, they see a body lying there...

Episode 9 - The Meeting

Weeks later, after hearing what Matsuda had heard, they were certain that Higuchi, Namikawa and Ooi the Yotsuba directors has a connection with Kira. Thus using Erald Coil's identity, L sets up the next plan by letting them know that Misa has the information they want about him. Misa is invited over for an interview by the directors so that they can try and get the information from her. Using that opportunity, Watari goes along too posing as Erald to be an insider acting along on L's instructions.

That day, Mogi goes along posing as Misa's new manager Mochi. Watari also plays his part introducing himself as the advertising advisor, John Walrus. Before finally offering Misa a contract to work with the company, they need to ask her a few questions. Misa is a little worried about what questions the directors will ask her but not from Watari since she knows what he'll ask. Watari cuts straight to the chase by asking if it's true how Misa admires Kira because he killed the thugs who murdered her parents. Misa denies it and assures them that as Yotsuba's image girl, she is a completely happy and energetic girl. Watari continues to emphasise how important her role as Yotsuba's image girl is and thus, she must not have anything to do with Kira. Misa continues to say she thinks Kira is a bad man but Watari asks her to stop lying. Seeing how they don't believe her, they decide to settle it with the Kira Game.

Role: L (Investigation team members continue with their fake names, Watari is Walrus (ウォレス) and Mogi is Mochi (模地).

Bonus Condition: Higuchi, Namikawa and Ooi's trust towards you does not fall below 50.

The game proves that Watari does have the detective skills and Misa no longer tries to deny her affections towards Kira. Watari goes onto about her older sister in Kyoto who also went to see Kira. Her sister's quite a talker when she is drunk. Misa is surprised at how Wataru knew about her sister too. In any case, the Yotsuba directors are impressed by his detective work. They don't care if he has feelings towards Kira but they don't want her to lie again. Watari now moves onto the question the directors have been waiting for, whether it's true that Misa was arrested by L once or not. Misa reveals how she was locked up and what she knew about Kira. Saying too much, Rem worries about her safety and decides to try and warn her about the third Kira being nearby. Higuchi grows impatient over this questioning session and goes to the toilet. Misa goes too and Watari decides they should take a break.

In the ladies toilet, Rem decides to let Misa touch a small piece of paper torn from the Death Note. - Small enough so that she will not get all her erased memories back but enough for her to see Rem. For a moment Misa is surprised at the monster before her. Rem clasps her hand over Misa's mouth and says that she is a friend. She reminds her about Light being the real original Kira that she loves. Rem continues that the third Kira will be the man she'll be standing next to. The man was thinking of making Misa his wife once he is president of Yotsuba and then kills her off for even more money - Rem did not want that to happen.

Misa returns to the meeting room and sees Rem standing next to Higuchi. Remembering who the original Kira is and how this third Kira likes her, she decides to try and use his feelings to her advantage so that she can help Light. Misa uses her charm to lure Higuchi into the Kira Game.

Role: Win as Kira with Higuchi's trust level at 100% towards you.

Bonus Condition: Higuchi suspicion gauge is at zero.

Next day, Misa invites Higuchi out for a date. Now that she knows who the real Kira is, she is eager to do something for Light no matter at what costs. Inside Higuchi's car, she says out loud that she is really the second Kira and that L was a fool to think she wasn't. Rem doesn't understand what is trying to do - could she be hinting at Rem to kill Higuchi for her? Misa continues about how she really wants to be the real Kira's bride. Higuchi ponders whether she was telling the truth or not then decides to test her. After all, she will be useful to him if she really is the second Kira. They challenge each other to prove that they are Kira. Misa agrees to be the first to do so but says she will only kill the bad guys. Higuchi gets her to take a computer inside the dashboard and turns it on to reveal a loan shark. Higuchi knows the man's bodyguard so if Misa were to kill him, Higuchi would know instantly. Misa tells Higuchi to turn away and begins writing on a piece of paper. Rem decides to follow along and help Misa kill the loan shark. Higuchi phones up the bodyguard after Misa finishes and finds to his surprise that the loan shark has died.

Now believing that Misa was the second Kira, he asks Misa if he could take her home with him where he'll show her prove that he is Kira. Misa refuses. Instead she says Higuchi can prove that he is Kira by listening to her instructions. He is to stop killing criminals for the time being and then resume again when she gives the word. Higuchi agrees out loud that he will stop killing criminals from this moment onwards; not knowing Misa was recording his every word. Light will be delighted to find out Higuchi is a Kira.

Episode 10 - Demise

Thanks to Misa, Higuchi had now admitted that he was the third Kira. Although L is suspicious at how easily Higuchi admitted it, L did recognise the fact that his character did match that of the current Kira. On the other hand, Light is worried for Misa's safety because if Higuchi finds out she is not the real second Kira, she will be killed. Light is eager for L to arrest Higuchi immediately. L doesn't disagree but he wishes to find out how Higuchi is killing people first. It's unbelievable even though Misa says he can kill people just by writing their names in a notebook. After some thought, L decides to setup a trap for Higuchi forcing him to kill right before their eyes. They're going to use the Sakura TV Station who broadcasted the Kira tapes to let Higuchi know that his identity has been discovered. They'll need to use someone who could have found out his identity and Matsuda decides to volunteer. L and Light predicts that Higuchi will go trying to find Matsuda's real name once he finds out he can't kill him and that will be the moment they arrest him. However, Soichiro and Mogi feel it's too dangerous for such a young person like Matsuda to act as bait and volunteers themselves instead since they were older. Matsuda is keen to prove his usefulness however and decides to convince with the Kira Game.

Role: Kira.

Bonus Condition: All characters' trust towards you do not fall below 50.

And so it's decided that Matsuda will be the bait on TV. But how will they get Higuchi to watch Sakura TV? Light decides they will try to control his actions with the help of Ooi and Namikawa. They are obviously surprised at who Light and the others actually are. Light asks them to choose between continuing to work with Higuchi where they'll live in prosperity or, cooperate with them so that they will not be charged with murder. If they don't cooperate they will get arrested on the spot. However, the two Yotsuba directors aren't that quick to cooperate. They need know Light and the others are capable of capturing Kira first thus they settle it with a Kira Game.

Role: Win as Kira.

Bonus Condition: Arrest Kira on the first vote.

Ooi and Namikawa agree to cooperate but Soichiro and Matsuda is worried if they'll get the evidence they need to arrest Higuchi. L assures them that they will because Kira needed the information about the FBI agents before he could kill them. Higuchi will need the same thing. More over, he would be desperate to get rid of Matsuda because if his identity was revealed, his great future would be in ruins. The team sets out to add in all the hidden surveillance equipment to the Yotsuba building and cars.

Later, Namikawa rings Higuchi up at the office. Panicking, he urgently tells Higuchi to turn on the TV. Sakura TV was going to reveal the true identity of Kira but for a moment Higuchi wasn't worried since he was expecting the usual rubbish from them. Namikawa tells him to look closer and he realises it's the man who was outside their meeting. Higuchi is surprised because he remembered seeing him fall off the veranda.

Picking up the phone, Higuchi tries to call Misa but she doesn't pick up as L instructs. Higuchi then calls Ooi and urges him to stop Sakura TV's broadcast. Ooi replies it's a dangerous move that'll acquire suspicion and there's no need since they already knew his real name. Ooi hangs up. Higuchi can't ask anything more from Ooi because only he, the third Kira knew that Matsuda's manager name was fake. He tries to call Misa's new manager Mogi but he is told Misa's on a break. Higuchi moves onto calling the company director Soichiro. Soichiro pretends he doesn't remember Matsuda's full name apart from "Yamashita" because he can find that out whenever he wants at the office. Higuchi tries to make him call the office but unfortunately, the workers are away on a trip in Okinawa including himself. Instead, Soichiro invites him to get the file he needs himself at the office and tells him the lock code. Meanwhile on TV, Matsuda is continued to be interviewed about his close encounter. He claims he is not afraid of being killed since Kira doesn't know his real name.

Higuchi speeds to the office where the file is and the investigation team watches him on camera. They see him taking out the file, writing down the name in a notebook and leaving but no signs of him making a move to kill Matsuda. Back in the car, Higuchi was sure he was safe now because he had written Matsuda's name down in the Death Note. However, nothing happens and Sakura TV continues the countdown in revealing Kira's identity. 50 minutes left. Higuchi was really panicking now realising the name on the file was also a fake. Then he remembers how he could see Matsuda's real name if he had the ability of the Death God's eyes. Half of his lifespan to get them... It was better than seeing his future ruined. He makes the deal with Rem and now he was unstoppable.

Episode 11 - Divine Comedy

Back at L's HQ, Light and L were puzzling over how Matsuda found out the name in the file was fake. And why did he suddenly shout he was unstoppable? Who was this Rem and what was this deal? In any case, Higuchi was now speeding off back to his office to look at the videos with Matsuda on them. Suddenly, a police officer is onto Higuchi for speeding. Higuchi stops and puts his hand into his bag, pretending to take out his license. He writes the officer's name in the Death Note and the officer dies. Light is shocked... What it a coincidence? Meanwhile, L wonders what Higuchi could have done the moment he put his hand into his bag. And how did he know the officer's name? Did he have the ability to kill someone just by looking at them just like the second Kira? No, if he did he could have killed Matsuda instantly. It was too dangerous to let Higuchi continue on so L decides to capture him. He warns all that Higuchi is now like the second Kira and to take precautions. He, Light and Watari sets off in a helicopter.

It was nearly time to reveal who Kira is on Sakura TV - not enough time for Higuchi to get back to the office. He'll just have to head directly to the studios to kill him but it was too late. A large number of policemen were onto him all with visors on. Watari snipes the car tyres and Higuchi comes to a halt. Higuchi is blindfolded and Soichiro puts a radio receiver nearby so that L can speak to him from the helicopter. L threatens Higuchi to reveal how he is killing people or he will use all methods necessary to make him talk. Higuchi tells him about the Death Note he got from a Death God and how you can kill someone just by knowing their name and face. Then all you have to do is write the name down in the notebook. L asks Soichiro to check the bag in the car and sure enough the Death Note was there with names in it. Soichiro turns round, horrified to see what looked like a monster standing nearby. It was Rem. Could Higuchi's claim about a Death God be true?

Soichiro brings over the Death Note to L and touching it, L too sees Rem. Now that L found out about the Death Note, Rem wonders what Light is planning to do. Light doesn't believe L so he grabs the Death Note to see for himself. All the memories that were erased from the moment Light found the Death Note came flashing back. For a brief moment, he looked to be in shock. L asks if he was alright but he can understand his reaction after seeing a Death God for the first time. Light answers he was fine but he says he can't believe it's possible to kill someone just by writing their name. Light secretly smiles. It all went according to plan. He knew he would get a hold of the Death Note again and now all he had to do was kill off Higuchi and, the Death Note's ownership will be transferred over to him. No one will be there to prove the Death Note's use.

On the other hand, L is thinking to himself that even if Light was Kira too, he wouldn't dare try using it while he was next to him. But was Light trying to end the Kira case this way? Thinking back to the Kira video tapes, L was sure there's still another Death Note out there. As long as they don't get a hold of the other, the case won't be over. Suddenly, Higuchi collapses. Light smiles as he is ready to kill L next.

Back at HQ, L has read through the Death Note's instructions. One of them was that if the user of the Death Note doesn't write a new name into it every 13 days he or she will die. Everything seems to fit in with the other Kira murders. L begins to have doubts that Light and Misa are Kiras. On the other hand, Light is very pleased about the proceedings. All he has to do is watch over L and make sure he doesn't try anything with the Death Note. L probably wouldn't. He was more likely to question the Death God, Rem first and Light was sure Rem won't be saying anything. After all, she won't say anything that will endanger Misa. In the meantime, the Death Note has been sent away for analysis so L decides to play the Kira Game while they're waiting. He's just thought of something that he wants to test.

Role: L.

Bonus Condition: Have the supporter (崇拝者) arrested.

The results of the analysis are out and it seems the materials and inks used for the Death Note are things that can't be found on Earth. This proves the Death Note is genuine and that the 13 day rule must be real too. In turn, it also means Misa and Light must be innocent since they were detained for 50 days. In actual fact, Light had added that fake rule into the Death Note and only Rem knows this. Light continues to gloat secretly satisfied that he will be the world's new god and L will fall before the fake rules that he created. L will die for his sin of going against the world's new god. L agrees to free Misa and Light but decides to leave Misa with a GPS phone anyway in case she may still be in danger from Kira. She'll have to check in to HQ 3 times a week.

After freeing Misa, she is left alone with Light. After checking there is no surveillance equipment around, she tells Misa to go dig up the other Death Note that he buried so that she'll remember what is going on. Misa is glad Light has his memory back. She goes off to dig up the other copy of the Death Note as instructed and remembers everything again. Now all she has to do is remember L's real name and kill him... But she can't! She's seen too many names and lifespans since she received the Death God's eyes. Just then, Ryuk arrives and Misa asks him a favour.

Later, Misa arrives back at the HQ together with Ryuk. The killings had started again during the night and it confirms L's theory that there was a second Death Note out there. Misa appears on the monitor standing outside the entrance. Rem looks up but is surprised that she is together with Ryuk. Not only that, it seems she has agreed to exchange half her remaining lifespan again for the Death God's eyes. Had Light planned this all along? Rem was not happy. L on the other hand wonders why Misa would appear again at a time like this, as if she's here to be a suspect. Just as Matsuda heads out to open the door for her, L stops him. He tells Misa to go home for the day and that there will be no meeting. Light laughs and wonders if he's noticed something but even so, there was nothing L could do.

L turns to Light and asks if he thinks there is a connection between Misa's release and Kira's "punishment" being resumed once again. Light doesn't think so but he knows that Misa is still suspected of being the second Kira. He tells L that it should have ended with Higuchi's death. Soichiro backs him up saying there's also the 13 day rule so Misa and Light should be cleared of all suspicions. L replies that the rule hasn't really been looked into yet. Seeing how L was not ready to give up, Light decides to play the Kira Game with him and says it will be for the last time.

Role: Kira.

Bonus Condition: Place judgement upon L by the first vote (i.e. use the Death Note on whoever's him)

Light wins and so he tells L not to suspect him or Misa of being Kira again. But L isn't going to back down that easily just because of a game and Rem knows that. Again, she is puzzled about what Light is up to. L plans to check if Misa has another copy of the Death Note on her first before making any decisions and if she does, even though he can't actually put her under arrest without catching her committing a murder using the note, he plans to capture her first. After that, perhaps he can give her a chance to use the Death Note.

Rem gets even more worried about Misa's safety now. Suddenly she realises what Light is really up to. Light is certain that if he gets Misa into danger, Rem will have to help her. At this rate, L will catch Misa with the Death Note on her and the only way Rem can help her is to personally write L's name into the Death Note. That way, L will die and at the same time, so will Rem for using the Death Note for the sake of someone else. If Rem dies, there will be no Death God to question in the HQ anymore. Rem had originally planned to kill Light but because Misa is so deeply in love with him, she just couldn't. Now Rem only has one choice if she wants to save Misa.

Meanwhile, L continues to think about the 13 day rule. There is something wrong with it and if he finds out it's fake then it's likely that both Light and Misa are Kira. He decides to try it and use the Death Note in a country where capital punishment still exists. His plan is to have one of the criminals sentenced with death to try out the Death Note and if he remains alive after 13 days then he will be excused. L asks Watari to send a notice to the individual leaders. Now Rem is really worried. She decides to go along with Light's plan. She herself will kill both L and his assistant Watari for the sake of Misa.

Rem disappears and Watari collapses to the floor. L ponders if it could be Kira's doing but it couldn't have. He doesn't know Watari's real name. If he doesn't then it must have been the Death God, Rem. Just as L was about to warn the others about the Death God he too collapses. Light holds onto him. L looks straight up into Light's gloating face and mutters, "So... I wasn't... wrong..." Rem also started to fade away for breaking the rule of the Death Gods but she was happy Misa will be able to live happily following her love Light. Light has surpassed Death Gods for he has managed to kill one. Rem's ashes lie with Light's original Death Note buried in it.

Now everyone who was in Light's way - Ryuzaki (L), Watari and Rem were gone. Light became the new leader of the investigation team and continues with the Kira case. He was making his way to becoming the god of a new world. However, little did he know that someone else was about to was about to inherit L's title.

In another place, an old man named Roger announces the death of L to Nia and Mellow...

Anyone who wishes to contact me, please send an e-mail to xcompREMOVETHISBIT@tiscali.co.uk.

Please do not e-mail me if you're stuck in the game and it's been over a year or so since I've played it. I will probably not remember how exactly to resolve any problems you may have come across.
