Guilty Gear Dust Strikers Review

Jobocan gives it 66%

The Guilty Gear fighting game series has been long known for its fast-paced gameplay and its awesome high-definition 2D graphics. Now we DS players are getting a taste of the action in the spin-off Guilty Gear Dust Strikers. It is an experimental game, sort of like Guilty Gear Isuka on the Playstation 2, so don’t expect a normal Guilty Gear game.

Graphics
Considering the lower resolution of a DS screen compared to a TV screen and it’s limited capabilities compared to a current-gen console, the graphics here are actually really good. They are much higher quality than in the GBA iteration of the series, and the characters actually look pretty close to their PS2 versions. As for the backgrounds in battles, they are high quality and are really nice to look at. They basically seem like they were taken out from the PS2 games.

Game Modes
Arcade Mode: Fight a series of characters. Sometimes there’s 1 opponent, sometimes more. Get to the end and fight the final boss to win.
Story Mode: You follow the character of your choice through a small story. Well not really a story, more like a dialog between 4 characters before a fight, then a free-for-all fight after the dialog. At the end you fight the final boss, then get a very nicely drawn picture as a reward.
VS mode: A 2 to 4 players fight. If you don’ have 4 people with the game, computer controlled players will round out the numbers. When a player dies, he can sill shoot lighting with the touch screen to obstruct the battle.
Challenge mode: 1 on 1 battle in an arcade style mode.
RK Factory: Here you get to make a Robo-Ky of your own. He keeps the same normal attacks, but you can decide to edit his special and super attacks and put them to any button combo you want. You can make your Robo-Ky anything. You want a Sol-Milia combo, no problem, just take the movse you want. This can be really fun to play around with and find combos.
Minigames: Self-explanatory. 7 minigames. They all use the touch screen. If you are able to get in the top 3 scores in the games you unlock moves for your Robo-Ky Factory. Only few of the minigames are fun.
