So there's no definite way of telling if it works, unless someone else tries it...

I'm guessing little can be done with the Wiimote connected to a laptop or PC... After all, you'd need a sensor bar for the PC/latop to be able to read where the Wiimote is actually pointing...
But if you notice anything that can be done with it, can you tell us?

You can even make you're own sensorbar on batteries or you can use 2 remote controllers but with 2 remote controllers its not very accurate.. | | | | | Quote: |

| | It's a bluetooth device. A PC will connect to it, you may even get some of the button presses to register (which is probably what this guy managed). It's going to take a lot of work before the motion sensors and sensor bar functions work. | | | |

| | The sensor bar for the Wii does not actually sense movement. The bar contains infrared LEDs that the Wiimote "sees" and gets its orientaion from. The remote itself calculates the pointer position and then sends it to the console via bluetooth. See this Youtube vid for a demo hackaday.com/2006/11/22/wii-dont-need-no-stinkin-sensor-bar/
For less than 5$ you could make an IR LED array that clips to the top of the monitor/latop screen and is powered via USB. After that its just a matter of decoding the pointer location signal and mapping it to the mouse cursor. If anyone figures it out, make sure to send it over to hackaday.com for propagation.

| | lol. You guys are so gullible. The installed bluetooth device is something from TOSHIBA, he took 3 seconds to code in java "LEFT" in a popup box, he took a picture whenthe lights were flashing so all 4 popped up, and when he was supposedly "calibrating" the controller, thats the TOSHIBA bluetooth device.

| | just so everyone knows, the sensor bar isnt a sensor bar, its an 2 array of 3 infrared LED's, if you want, get 2 candles, light them, and tadaaaa as long as they are within a foot and a half to 2 feet away from each other, you have created your own "sensor but not really sensor" candles... | | | | | | ur right that wud rock cud practice wiimote skills more, kl | | | |

| | 1. The Wiimote is a Bluetooth device.
2. Over at wiili.org folks are using Linux tools to figure out what's what.
3. The Wiimote is a BT HID device.
4. My officemate and I were able to pair with the Wiimote and get the button states on OS X.
Give it another week or two and there will be initial drivers for the Wiimote. The buttons and accelerometers are done deals. Left now is to figure out the pointer and speaker. | | | All times are GMT -7. The time now is 05:59 AM. |
