its a trick used by advertising artists. something subtly wrong in a picture (like 6 fingers, too many legs/hands etc) will make it stick in your mind for seemingly no good reason.
the part labeled “thumb” is the lower part of the thumb, the upper part is bent to support the stick. Hold a pen or something with your own hand, you’ll see what I mean

You are all wrong. She only has three fingers and a thumb. Her pinky (fingers 1 and 2) has become grossly inflamed possibly due to an injury or an abscess. That line down the middle is an incision from when they tried to drain some of the fluids. The reason for her oddly angled thumb (finger 5) is due to a disfiguring fracture which may be the result as the same injury that caused her sprained/abscessed pinky. That lighter area behind her hand (so-called thumb) is swamp gas.
You people who can’t see the six fingers need to have your eyes checked. Have you ever seen a thumb??? Look at your hand right now. Now look at the picture again. None of the 6 fingers there could be a thumb.
